Here is how this works in practice. An underwater camera operator captures footage beneath the water's surface, combining diving expertise with pro cinematography skills. From the marine paradise of Fernando de Noronha to the tropical waters of Bahia and Abrolhos Marine Park, they manage waterproof housings, underwater lighting, and the unique challenges of shooting in aquatic environments. This includes visibility, currents, and communication. Dive shooting demands specialized training that goes far beyond standard camera operation.

Here is the short of it. We connect you with certified underwater camera operators who hold pro diving credentials alongside film production experience. Our network has pros equipped for Brazil's 7,000 km coastline, the Amazon river system, Fernando de Noronha's crystal-clear waters, and pro pool facilities in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, set to delivering cinematic underwater footage safely and efficiently.

On Location

Underwater operators with Fernando de Noronha, Bonito, Pantanal, and Amazon river-system commercial-dive qualifications

Here is how this works in practice. Brazilian underwater camera ops run commercial-dive (DNV/IMCA-equivalent under Marinha do Brasil NORMAM-15 commercial-dive certification) plus PADI Divemaster and Tec Trimix qualifications. With full-face Kirby Morgan AGA mask comms and surface-supplied options for tech work. Housings cover Gates Underwater (Deep, Pro Action, GP14), Nauticam Cinema Series with Atomos Ninja V+ HDR monitors, SeaCam, and Aquatica for Sony Venice 2, ARRI Alexa Mini LF, Alexa 35, RED V-Raptor, Sony FX6/FX3, and Canon EOS R5C bodies. Subal and Nauticam optics with Zen and SeaCam corrective ports cover wide and macro work.

Here is what we have to work with. On the ground, Locations on the working bench have Fernando de Noronha (UNESCO 2001 marine-covered archipelago — bookings via ICMBio site-level permit), Bonito (Mato Grosso do Sul, the country's signature freshwater dive destination with crystalline river-snorkel), Pantanal (UNESCO 2000 — flooded November-April with watercraft access, dry July-September overland), Central Amazon (UNESCO 2000. Locations have Manaus base, 10m+ river-rise November-March), and the Atlantic coast (Búzios, Santa Catarina, northeast).

Here is the short of it. Operators are SindCine and SATED-registered, with reciprocal IATSE Local 600 Dive shooting plan for visiting US co-productions. CLT contracts, FGTS 8% termination fund, INSS workers comp, 13º salário, and 30-day paid vacation accruals are managed in-house. Specialty safety protocols cover anaconda, jacaré (caiman), piranha, and arapaima encounters in Amazon and Pantanal. Plus reef-shark and sea-turtle protocols at Fernando de Noronha. Yellow fever vaccination is required for global crews bound for Amazon and Pantanal.

Here is the layout. On the ground, Recent shoots have Walter Salles's I'm Still Here (Best Foreign Language Oscar nominee 2025), Anaconda (1997 — the Amazon-set US production), Rio and Rio 2 reference plate work (Carlos Saldanha). Plus Globoplay and Netflix LatAm wildlife documentary slates and tourism-board campaigns for ICMBio-managed covered areas. Currency advantage BRL ~5:1 USD keeps day-rates competitive against the Caribbean and Mexican underwater-cinematography markets.

FAQ

Professional Underwater Operations

What certifications do your underwater operators hold?

Here is the breakdown. Our underwater camera operators hold pro PADI, CMAS, or equivalent certifications appropriate for the filming depths and conditions. Many hold pro dive shooting certifications and have HSE or equivalent commercial diving qualifications for complex shoots.

What camera systems can you use underwater?

Here is what that looks like on the ground. We operate underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo/V-Raptor, Sony Venice/FX6, and Blackmagic cameras. Housing selection depends on your camera package, needed features, and depth needs. We also use specialized underwater cinema cameras.

Can you film with actors underwater?

Here is how the picture comes together. Yes. We work with trained water safety coordinators and give actor coaching for underwater work. Non-diving actors can be filmed in controlled shallow water with safety divers. Complex underwater stunts need specialized planning and safety planning.

What locations in Brazil are suitable for underwater filming?

Brazil gives varied underwater filming locations: northeast coast (clear water, marine life), Atlantic coast (dramatic conditions), lakes and rivers (freshwater environments), and many studio tanks and pools for controlled shoots.

How do you handle underwater lighting?

We use specialized underwater LED and HMI lights in waterproof housings. For pool and tank work, above-water lighting can penetrate effectively. Deep or murky water needs dedicated underwater lighting packages planned during pre-production.

What are the safety requirements for underwater filming?

All underwater work needs risk assessments, dive plans, certified safety divers, surface support, and emergency protocols. We comply with Brazilian diving rules and film industry safety standards. Complex sequences may need hyperbaric chamber standby.
