SCENE 01 / BOOM MICROPHONES

Boom Microphones

Professional shotgun microphones and boom equipment for your Brazilian production.

Scroll

Here is how this works in practice. Boom microphones are key for capturing clean dialogue and ambient sound on set. These directional microphones, mounted on extendable poles, allow operators to position the mic close to talent while keeping it out of frame, delivering focused audio pickup with minimal background interference.

Here is the short of it. We give access to a range of pro boom microphone systems. This includes shotgun mics, hypercardioid capsules, and lightweight boom poles suited to your shooting conditions. Our team sets up delivery and backup gear to keep your sound department operating smoothly across production.

Sennheiser MKH 416 dialogue capsules, K-Tek booms, and Rycote wind protection for tropical sets

Here is how this works in practice. The standing dialogue mic across Brazilian features and commercials is the Sennheiser MKH 416. This covers RF-condenser, humidity-tolerant, and built for the warm, damp air that defines Rio, Salvador, Recife, and the Amazon. We keep matched-pair MKH 416 stocks alongside Schoeps CMIT 5U capsules for cleaner interior dialogue, Sanken CS-3e and CS-M1 short shotguns for tight off-axis rejection on noisy locations, and DPA 4017B + 4018 capsules for the boom-up dialogue technique many Brazilian features prefer.

On the ground, K-Tek and Ambient boom poles in 3m, 4m, and 6m lengths feed through Cinela Pianissimo and Rycote Cyclone shock mounts. Rycote Windjammer + Cinela COSI fur covers cover wind from Sambódromo arena work to gusty Búzios coastline shoots. Rental flow runs through Cinerent Brasil and Cor & Som on the SP and Rio sides. With cross-border top-ups from Sigma Cine LA (12hr GRU/LA direct) when feature loadouts need extended matched pairs.

Here is the short of it. Brazilian production sound mixers carry a long-running discipline forged on Globo Estúdios PROJAC telenovelas and on Walter Salles, Fernando Meirelles, and José Padilha features. The list covers City of God, Central Station, Tropa de Elite, Two Popes, Narcos, I'm Still Here. Where shotgun work has to land cleanly through Portuguese phonetic intensity and dense urban ambience. We bag each boom kit with humidity packs and silica before it leaves the shop because 80–95% tropical humidity will fog capsules and lift gain noise on cheap windscreens. Coastal shoots get a saltwater-rinse and dry-down protocol before return-to-shop.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. On the ground, Backup capsules ride in each kit, lithium and AA stocks are doubled for Amazon legs out of Manaus where resupply windows are long, and ANATEL forms is filed alongside the wireless mic plan so the boom mixer's IFB and timecode never collide with the lavalier stack.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which shotgun mic do you recommend?

Here is the breakdown. The Sennheiser MKH 416 stays the industry standard for its versatility and reliability in many conditions. For quieter interiors, the Schoeps CMIT 5U gives top clarity. The Sanken CS-3e is great for reducing off-axis noise in challenging locations.

What boom pole lengths are available?

We stock boom poles from 2m to 6m in many configurations. Most shoots use 3-4m poles for standard work. We recommend K-Tek and Ambient poles with internal cable routing for clean, pro operation.

What wind protection do you provide?

We give complete windscreen systems from Rycote and Cinela suitable for any conditions—from light interior air movement to heavy exterior wind. Our kits have appropriate fur covers for the conditions you'll encounter.

Can you provide complete boom kits?

Yes, we give fully equipped boom packages including microphone, pole, shock mount, windscreen, cables, and all needed accessories. Kits are prepped and tested before delivery.

Do you offer backup equipment?

Yes, we recommend and can give backup microphones and key accessories for longer shoots. Having backup gear protects your production against any gear issues.

What about interior vs exterior mics?

While some shoots use different microphones for interior and exterior work, modern shotguns like the MKH 416 and CS-3e perform well in both environments. We can advise on the best way for your specific needs.

Productions in Brazil that need this often pair it with Location Sound Packages, Wireless Systems, and Wireless Microphone Systems for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Camera Equipment Rental and Boom Operators.
