SCENE 01 / UNDERWATER CAMERA OPERATORS
Underwater Filming Services
Certified underwater cinematography for marine, pool, and aquatic productions across Brazil.
Here is how this works in practice. Underwater camera operators combine pro diving certification with cinema camera expertise to capture footage beneath the surface. In Brazil, operators work in spectacular marine environments including Fernando de Noronha, Abrolhos Marine Park, and the crystal-clear freshwater springs of Bonito, delivering compelling subaquatic visuals in tropical conditions.
Here is the short of it. We connect you with certified underwater camera pros who bring the right combination of diving experience and cinematographic skill. Our network has operators skilled across Brazil's 7,400 km coastline and at Globo Studios' water facilities in Rio. We set up waterproof housing, lighting, safety divers, and logistics so your underwater sequences are captured safely and to the highest visual standard.

PADI / SSI / DAN-certified underwater DPs for Fernando de Noronha UNESCO 2001, Abrolhos Marine National Park, Bonito river snorkel, and Amazon Rio Negro river-dolphin work
Here is how this works in practice. Brazil's underwater catalogue runs from open-Atlantic visibility shoots to crystal-clear inland-river work to murky equatorial-river apex-predator coverage. Each demands a different camera-op temperament. Fernando de Noronha (UNESCO 2001) delivers 20–30 m Atlantic visibility, spinner-dolphin pods at Baía dos Golfinhos, and a hard ICMBio cap on diver-count per dive site that we file 60–90 days ahead. Abrolhos Marine National Park off Bahia carries humpback-whale July–November migrations and shallow coral. Atol das Rocas Biological Reserve is closed to public dive ops but ready to ICMBio-signed off science / broadcast crews.
Here is what we have to work with. On the ground, Bonito in Mato Grosso do Sul gives river-snorkel work in the Rio Sucuri and Rio da Prata with visibility that reads more like aquarium glass than river. Our ops dive Nauticam, Gates, and SPL housings on RED Komodo-X, Sony Venice 2 Rialto, ARRI Alexa Mini LF, and Sony A1 II. Lighting is Keldan 8X CRI / 4X CRI, Light & Motion Sola, and OrcaTorch D900V. PADI Divemaster + Rescue minimums, DAN annual coverage, surface-supply backup, and oxygen-on-boat is standard.
Here is the short of it. The Amazon side is the harder discipline. Encontro das Águas at Manaus carries the Rio Negro / Solimões boundary where pink and grey river-dolphins (boto and tucuxi) work either side of the line. Visibility runs 1–3 m in tannin-rich Negro water and zero-vis in the Solimões silt, so housings ride with low-light prime glass (Sigma 14mm T2 FF, Canon CN-E 14mm T3.1) and ambient-light underwater LED supplementation only.
Here is the layout. On the ground, IBAMA + ICMBio site-level clearance is non-negotiable, FUNAI permits are required before any Terras Indígenas waterway crossing (Yanomami, Kayapó, Xingu watersheds), and yellow-fever vaccination is required for global crews working Amazon legs. Saltwater rinse-down protocols, fresh-water flush bins, and full housing service runs in Rio at Subaquática or São Paulo at Cinerent Brasil. Cross-border Sigma Cine LA housing redundancy lands inside 12 hours on direct GRU/GIG flights.
FAQ
Professional Underwater Operations
What certifications do your underwater operators hold?
Here is the breakdown. Our underwater camera operators hold pro PADI, CMAS, or equivalent certifications appropriate for the filming depths and conditions. Many hold pro dive shooting certifications and have HSE or equivalent commercial diving qualifications for complex shoots.
What camera systems can you use underwater?
Here is what that looks like on the ground. We operate underwater housings for ARRI Alexa Mini, RED Komodo/V-Raptor, Sony Venice/FX6, and Blackmagic cameras. Housing selection depends on your camera package, needed features, and depth needs. We also use specialized underwater cinema cameras.
Can you film with actors underwater?
Here is how the picture comes together. Yes. We work with trained water safety coordinators and give actor coaching for underwater work. Non-diving actors can be filmed in controlled shallow water with safety divers. Complex underwater stunts need specialized planning and safety planning.
What locations in Brazil are suitable for underwater filming?
Brazil gives varied underwater filming locations: northeast coast (clear water, marine life), Atlantic coast (dramatic conditions), lakes and rivers (freshwater environments), and many studio tanks and pools for controlled shoots.
How do you handle underwater lighting?
We use specialized underwater LED and HMI lights in waterproof housings. For pool and tank work, above-water lighting can penetrate effectively. Deep or murky water needs dedicated underwater lighting packages planned during pre-production.
What are the safety requirements for underwater filming?
All underwater work needs risk assessments, dive plans, certified safety divers, surface support, and emergency protocols. We comply with Brazilian diving rules and film industry safety standards. Complex sequences may need hyperbaric chamber standby.
