Sound Devices 888 / 833 / Scorpio mixer-recorder packages with Lectrosonics + Wisycom + Sennheiser Digital 6000 wireless and ANATEL frequency clearance across all Brazilian states
Here is how this works in practice. Brazilian location-sound packages run to global feature standard. Mixer-recorder cores are Sound Devices Scorpio (32-channel), 888 (16-channel), and 833 (12-channel). With Sonosax SX-R4+ and SX-LC8 expansion units for stadium-scale broadcast work. Backup Zaxcom Nomad / Maxx units sit in each truck for redundancy. Bag rigs run Orca OR-330 / OR-34 / OR-30 with K-Tek Stingray harnesses, full IFB hop via Comtek M-216 and Lectrosonics IFBT4 / R1a stacks, Denecke TS-3 timecode power packs with Tentacle Sync E + Track E for camera-side, and Ambient Lockit Master with TimeCode Buddy backup.
On the ground, Recording targets are 32-bit float WAV on dual CF Express / SSD. Backup ride to network-attached storage at wrap. ANATEL frequency licensing (470–698 MHz, 902–928 MHz ISM where permitted) is filed 15–30 days ahead of shoot date. Brazil's TV-band reallocation differs from US / EU norms, so US-spec wireless mics need re-blocking via Wisycom MTK952 or Lectrosonics SR / SRb receivers on Brazilian frequencies.
Here is the short of it. Brazilian audio mixers have shaped the sound of City of God (Meirelles 2002), Central Station (Salles 1998 Berlin Golden Bear), Tropa de Elite (Padilha 2007 Berlin Golden Bear), Narcos (Padilha Netflix), Bacurau (Mendonça Filho 2019 Cannes Jury Prize), I'm Still Here (Salles 2024 Best Foreign Lang Oscar nom + Fernanda Torres Best Actress Oscar nom 2025), and the Two Popes (Meirelles 2019 Netflix).
Here is what we have to work with. On the ground, the country's ambient profile demands hard-trained recordists — 80–95% humidity in Rio, Salvador, Recife, and the Amazon will fog capsules and lift gain noise on cheap windscreens. Coastal saltwater-rinse and dry-down protocols are required. Pantanal Jul–Sept dry-season jaguar-safari work runs ambient discipline against insect ambient. Sambódromo Marquês de Sapucaí (Niemeyer 1984) Carnaval February street-shoots need high-SPL-tolerant capsules and aggressive RF running. Gear flows through Cinerent Brasil and Cor & Som. Cross-border top-ups via Sigma Cine LA. ANCINE / CLT / FGTS 8% / 13º salário budgeted across freelance.
FAQ
Our Sound Network
What's included in location sound services?
Our location sound packages have a production sound mixer, pro recording gear, microphones, and basic wireless systems. Boom operators, extra wireless channels, and specialized gear are added based on your production's complexity and budget.
What recording formats do your mixers use?
Here is the breakdown. Our sound mixers work with industry-standard recorders including Sound Devices, Zaxcom, and Zoom F-series. We deliver in all common formats (WAV, BWF, polyphonic) with proper metadata, timecode, and sound reports compatible with major post-prod workflows.
Can you handle challenging acoustic environments?
Here is what that looks like on the ground. Yes. Our skilled mixers are skilled at managing difficult locations including busy streets, industrial sites, and reverberant spaces. We check location acoustics during tech scouts and recommend solutions including wireless lavaliers, directional mics, and portable acoustic treatment.
How do you coordinate with post-production?
Here is how the picture comes together. We give detailed sound reports with each shooting day, well labeled and organized audio files, and direct communication with your post team. Our mixers know post-prod workflows and record with editing and mixing in mind.
What about multi-camera productions?
We're skilled with multi-camera setups for TV, live events, and documentary. Our mixers set up timecode across cameras and recorders, manage ISO tracks for each source, and give stems that simplify post-prod.
Do you provide sound equipment rental separately?
Yes. We give standalone sound gear rental including recorders, microphones, wireless systems, and accessories. Gear can be rented with or without operator. We can advise on the right package for your specific needs.
